Two hot topics in eating habits that come up a lot with my clients, students, community are Carbs and Snacks. I hear these questions all the time: 

  • Should I avoid eating carbs or snacks if I’m looking to get back in shape? 
  • Should I stop snacking on nuts and fruit if I’m always going over carbs & fat when tracking my macros?

It can get really frustrating trying to sift through all of the recommendations out there, and then compare to what’s worked for you, your friends, or even strangers on the Internet.

One of the biggest mistakes you can do is create an unhealthy relationship with food by overthinking certain foods or over-restricting certain foods. That mindset will only cause you to make the excuse to eat even MORE of what you said you “shouldn’t” eat.

That’s why I invited Chicago-based Registered Dietitian Morgan Murdock from the HealthLoft on today’s show.

So in today’s session, we’ll ALSO be discussing what a food intolerance might look like, what science has to say about them, and then how to narrow in on the best foods for YOUR individual system.

Kira Whitham is a Functional Nutrition Specialist who helps women with autoimmune disease simplify their health and take control of their disease. She holds a Master’s in Health and Nutrition Education from Hawthorn University, as well as additional training through the School of Applied Functional Medicine, Metabolic Healing Institute, and Institute for Functional Medicine.

2020 Self-Discovery Journey

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been going through some SERIOUS self-discovery over the past few MONTHS!

  • MARCH: Quarantine began

In light of the MAJOR, life-altering crises that have occurred so far in 2020, it took some time for me to really process the bigger picture of how these massive circumstances will not only change our lives forever externally, but also internally.


As you’re experiencing new & uncomfortable thoughts & feelings on a whole new level, I want you to know that I’ll continue to use my voice to help you get curious about what’s happening in your inside world, so you can take more control of & responsibility for what’s happening in your outside world.


While I’m not the right authority to educate you on on racism or viruses, I am the right authority to educate you on mental wellness & thought management – during times of both crisis and normalcy – guiding you to work from the inside out to create a healthier MIND so you can build your healthiest SELF.

This year, we’re learning that there are still things we need to learn, and still things we need to UNlearn. Know that I will be working very hard, digging deeper than ever before, to help us all with this. Let’s do our part to NOT let 2020 become the year of fear, ok? You with me?
